Published: August 25, 2014

If you're currently in a wheelchair, yet have trouble finding fun activities to participate in, we can help! Just because you rely on a wheelchair for mobility purposes doesn’t mean you can't enjoy life and enrich your daily schedule with fun hobbies. Below, you will find a few examples how to pass the time in interesting and amusing ways.

Staying Active and Busy

You may be in a wheelchair, but it's still important to enjoy life and find activities that keep you smiling. Though it may seem difficult to find such activities, we recommend sampling the options we've listed:

Yoga

Hatha yoga is a popular form of yoga that is usually performed while seated. To avoid possible injuries, it's suggested that you speak with a professional to help you get started. Though this exercise usually takes place when one is seated in a chair, there is no reason why the exercise can't be performed while sitting in a wheelchair.

Various Sports

You are probably already familiar with the different types of wheelchair sports that are available to participate in. Depending on the areas in which you live in, you may be able to join a wheelchair basketball, archery, or swimming team. To find out more about which types of wheelchair sports your town has to offer and how to get involved, you may try calling local churches, gyms, or recreational centers.

Traveling

If you enjoy traveling, it's important to understand that you can still travel in a wheelchair. You may have to do a little more planning, but you can definitely find an airline, hotel, and tourist attractions that will accommodate your needs. Whether you prefer going to a big city or relaxing on a beach, there are plenty of destinations that will allow you to smile and have fun.

Enjoying Life

You may be in a wheelchair, but you can still find activities to participate in that you like doing, activities that will help you enjoy life. You may have to get a little creative, but with some research and fact checking, you'll be able to come up with a whole list of exciting adventures to start planning!
